I offer one-on-one mentoring/lessons and advice over Discord screenshare call, which allows me to give you effective visual examples and guidance in real time.
My mentoring is open to anyone who draws, from doodlers to those looking to go freelance or pro. If interested, send me an email at nyx@nyxaurelia.art with your Discord tag#, a few of your works, and any goals you'd like to reach!
I've learned a lot in my journey, starting from drawing as a hobby in 2018 till now, and I would like to share the techniques and strategies that I've learned! Though I also like to share tutorials from time to time, I really prefer 1-on-1 mentoring as each artist's work is different and might require a different approach to improvement.
I've found that the best way to improve is to make something, and to look back on it with a critical eye. Typically I'll spend lessons doing overpaints of your drawings, demonstrations of my painting techniques, and answering any questions you may have. But if you have anything else you'd like me to do, you can let me know - feedback, demonstrations, opinions, Q&A, etc.
Lesson overpaints with @fushigi_ari (Instagram) - Focusing on creating contrast, interesting lighting, and dramatic atmosphere.
Lesson overpaint - confidence with shadows and color choice / anime style. (student chose to be anonymous)
1 - student was stuck on this drawing. 2 - my quick lesson demo. 3 - progress my student sent me after the lesson, where they applied shadows and color differently but still effectively. Putting your own spin on my lessons like this is definitely encouraged!
Let me know what you would like to learn! Here's some examples of topics:
First, we'll start with a trial lesson. Send me some of your works, and I'll give you some advice during the lesson to see what topics you should focus on.
You can use this lesson to see my teaching style, ask any questions, and see if we're a good fit for each other.
If you decide you want to mentor with me again, I'll be able to work with you with ongoing topics and advice.
Simply reach out whenever you have new progress on your work or questions that need in-depth explanations. This is the main way I do my mentoring, because I want to be flexible and let you work at your own pace. Generally, Discord lessons are 1-1.5 hours each.
If you want to work out a more regular schedule with me, please let me know!
I prefer payment by Zelle for US residents. Credit/debit card, PayPal, Venmo, and a few other international options are available as well.
Most of what I know is through independent learning rather than formal education, but I can share with you what I know. If there's something I'm not sure of, I will do my research as best as I can. You may judge my work by my portfolio, and feel free to contact me for any questions about my experience!
My Discord server is a place where I and other artists can share and discuss their work. I invite my students (and everyone else) to join, share, and discuss with the community!
