I offer one-on-one mentoring and art lessons over Discord. It's open to anyone who draws, from doodlers or to those looking to go freelance or pro.
Mentorships can help you improve your drawing skills and portfolio through personalized learning. This is especially helpful if you're feeling confused or struggling with your art, or you feel like you're missing something but don't know what.
As your mentor, I'll help you fill the gaps in your knowledge, work on the concepts that you need to improve, and develop your own unique drawing style. You'll also learn from my own personal experience and drawing/painting techniques.
Some common concepts I help my students with include:
My teaching style involves learning through trial and error rather than a structured course of topics. So, you can draw whatever you want and ask me whatever you want - we'll take a look at your work during lessons and cover topics based on what needs improvement. This is how I taught myself to draw, and this is the learning style I wish to pass onto you!
Lessons will be over screenshare call and can be used for anything you want to request - feedback, demonstrations, Q&A, etc. However, this will not be like an in-person art class where I watch you draw the whole time. Rather, you should work on your drawings outside of lessons and bring your progress to show and discuss with me on call.
Lesson demonstration - confidence with shadows and color choice. (student chose to be anonymous)
1 - student was stuck on this drawing. 2 - my quick lesson demo, where I overpainted the hair and body and left the skirt for my student to color. 3rd - progress my student sent me after the lesson, where they applied shadows and color differently but still effectively. Putting your own spin on my lessons like this is definitely encouraged!
First, we'll start with a trial lesson.
Send me one of your works and we'll review it during the lesson to see what topics you should focus on. You can use this lesson to see my teaching style, ask any questions, and see if we're a good fit for each other.
After this, you can get single lessons or take a full mentorship.
Generally I will do lessons over Discord call for 1 hour (60 USD) or 1.5 hours (90 USD) each.
This is the more flexible option where you work at your own pace. You can simply reach out whenever you have new progress on your work to show and discuss or new questions to ask.
Just let me know a few days in advance when you want to have a lesson.
If you want to work with me more closely, I offer a full mentorship package at 240 USD per month. This will include regular lessons as well as access to me throughout the month.
*If you find it hard to do a Discord call, I've been discussing doing recorded video lessons with some of my students. I'm also planning to add a monthly overpaint/critique tier to my Patreon. Let me know if you're interested in either of these!
Payment: Payment will be expected before each lesson (full mentorships at the beginning of the month). I can take Zelle, credit/debit card, Venmo, PayPal, ACH/SEPA bank transfer, Apple Pay, etc. Feel free to ask what's available, especially if outside the US.
Example work: I may ask to use your work as examples of my teaching or in my tutorials. Feel free to discuss what I teach you with others.
Recording: Live lessons may not be recorded by either person without consent from each other.
Time Zones: I'm in California/Pacific Time (PT), but as of now my time schedule is flexible. Please inquire for your time zone!
Finally, most of what I know is through independent learning rather than formal education. I don't claim to be an industry professional, but I can share with you what I know. If there's something I'm not sure of, I will do my research as best as I can.
If interested in my mentoring, please contact me either by nyx_aurelia@gmx.com with your Discord tag# or message me via my Discord server!
